Defender Daniel Bocanegra scored a last-gap goal to give Colombians Atletico Nacional a 2-2 draw against Nacional of Uruguay in a Copa Libertadores Group Six encounter. The clash, played at the Atanasio Girardot stadium, started off better for the visitors, as home midfielder Alejandro Bernal saw red immediately after Carlos De Pena broke the deadlock with a shot from outside the box.
Forward Santiago Garcia doubled the advantage from a one-on-one with goalkeeper Luis Martinez before the break. Bocanegra pulled the Medellin-based side within a goal when he headed home a corner and, in injury time, he tried his luck with a shot from outside the box that deflected in off a defender. It leaves Brazilian side Gremio top of Group Six on six points, two above Nacional, three ahead of Newell's Old Boys and five clear of Nacional.
Ten-man Uruguayan Defensor defeated Cruzeiro 2-0 in Group Five. Midfielder Felipe Gedoz opened the scoring with an accurate free kick near the half-hour mark, but things got tougher after defender Ramon Arias axed down striker Dagoberto inside the box and was sent for an early shower. However, Dagoberto failed from the spot and Gedoz sealed the game after superb work from Giorgian De Arrascaeta.
In the other Group Five clash, Universidad de Chile came from behind to clinch a 2-1 win over Real Gracilaso in Peru thanks to goals from Ramon Fernandez and Gutierrez. Victor Ferreria had put the home side ahead.
Defensor and Universidad share the top spot with six points, three above Cruzeiro and Real Garcilaso. In Group One, Pablo Escobar's brace gave Bolivian giants The Strongest a 2-0 win over Argentinean side Velez Sarsfield in La Paz. Ecuadorian side Emelec saw off Leon 2-1 with a double from forward Luis Escalada in Group Seven.
Carlos Pena was on target for the Mexicans. The Ecuadorian champions climbed to top spot on six points. In the day's other game, Mexican side Santos Laguna drew 1-1 with Venezuelans Anzoategui to stay top of Group Eight.
