Thailand beat hosts Vietnam 2-1 to finish fifth at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and seize the continent’s last ticket to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™.
The Thais dominated the first half in Ho Chi Minh City, but goalkeeper Dang Thi Kieu Trinh denied them with two fine saves.
However, Pikul Khueanpet broke the deadlock just after the restart, and Kanjana Sung-Ngoen doubled the lead on 65 minutes to silence the crowd. Thereafter, Vietnam took the game to their opponents and Tuyet Dong pulled a goal back with four minutes remaining, but Thailand hung on to qualify for the Women's World Cup for the first time.
Thailand, who have now recorded back-to-back 2-1 victories over Vietnam, will join AFC Women’s Asian Cup semi-finalists Korea Republic, Japan, China PR and Australia at Canada 2015.
