The German women's national team are not the only German contingent to have been hard at work in Finland this summer. President of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011™ Organising Committee (OC) Steffi Jones and the OC's Head of Marketing Doris Fitschen have also been on-site gaining first-hand experience of the UEFA Women's EURO.
The pair shared their impressions and experiences of the tournament on Monday 7 September at a cafe in the Finnish capital Helsinki. "The EURO has been a lot of fun. The Finns' hospitality and the excellent organisation have made these European Championships into a truly memorable event. Of course we've also been delighted with the fantastic performance of the German national team," said Steffi Jones.
"The squad has felt really at home in Finland. The hospitality and helpfulness we've experienced here are an example which we hope to follow for the Women's World Cup in 2011," added Fitschen.
OC President and television pundit Jones, a Women's EURO winner in both 1997 and 2001, also reminded those in attendance of an important upcoming date: "The 29 October is a very important date for the OC because it marks the beginning of the 'city series' tickets pre-sale period. It won't be easy to fill the stadiums, but we need to prove that Germany is the home of women's football. The enthusiasm we saw at the women's international matches in Frankfurt and Sinsheim is exactly the kind of support we need."
"We can't have a Women's World Cup with empty stadiums. We'll be offering the fans tailor-made ticket packages and I'm sure our team will give them a great reason to show their support," said Fitschen.
