There's no rest for Steffi Jones these days: just 24
hours after the official opening of the OC office on
Otto-Fleck-Schneise in Frankfurt, the FIFA Women's World Cup
2011 Organising Committee President flew to New Zealand with the
German Football Association (DFB) U-17 women's squad for the
"Future Stars" tournament in Auckland.
Jones will attend a number of events in the build-up to the
FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, to be contested from 28 October to
16 November 2008 in New Zealand.
The New Zealand senior and U-20 players listened with rapt
attention on Wednesday as Jones described her journey to the summit
of the world game. A day earlier, the 2003 FIFA Women's World
Cup winner met New Zealand Football Association Chairman and U-17
Women's World Cup OC President Graham Seatter, head of
tournament organisation Chris Simpson, and the association's
head of women's football Michele Cox. The German OC President
discussed potential partnerships with the representatives of New
Zealand football.
Ahead of the German U-17 team's meeting with Australia on
Thursday at North Harbour stadium in Auckland, a match the
Europeans won 5-1, Steffi Jones took questions from local media,
mainly focused on her new role as OC President and the growing
international recognition for the women's game.
The OC President concludes her trip to New Zealand and flies
home to Germany on Monday.
