At just short of 3,000 metres, Zugspitze is Germany's highest peak. It is home to the nation's highest-altitude church and, on a clear day, the viewing platform offers a unique panorama over four countries. Stay overnight in an igloo village here in winter if you so wish. The Zugspitzbahn rack-and-pinion railway means the ascent couldn't be simpler.
