Kiwis confirm London passage

New Zealand have qualified for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament London 2012 in emphatic fashion with a 7-0 second leg victory over Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby today.

Despite the heat in the PNG capital, New Zealand followed up Saturday’s 8-0 win in Whangarei to be 4-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Hayley Moorwood, Sarah Gregorius, Hannah Wilkinson and an own goal.

The Football Ferns maintained their focus in the second half with Anna Green and Betsy Hassett on the scoresheet, before Gregorius completed her double with a penalty.

It was a second successive qualification for New Zealand who featured at Beijing 2008 and were eliminated in the group stage.
