Andreas Heraf, Austria coach
Today we missed another chance to close out the match quickly, and although that’s also the only criticism I have of my team, it’s something we urgently need to work on. We’re competing at a World Cup and at this level you have to show a certain amount of guile. Otherwise I’m extremely proud of my lads, of course, and I really hope that these four points will be enough to see us through to the last 16. I’d love for us to be able to stay in New Zealand even longer. The experience you gather at a tournament like this is worth its weight in gold.
Leonardo Pipino, Panama coach
I’m proud of my team today despite the defeat. We gave it our all and never gave up even when we down to nine men. Naturally our goalkeeper [Jaime de Gracia] deserves particular praise for writing his name in the history books and saving two penalties – unbelievable. Of course we wanted to win and that will still be our aim against Ghana. We’ll never give up, and that’s what makes us so strong.
