Helio Sousa, Portugal coach
We knew it would be a difficult match and that New Zealand’s playing style could make life tough for us, especially in terms of winning the first and second balls around our penalty area. There were times when we didn’t do so well in those situations. The pitch was wet and any mistakes could have caused us problems, but in the end they only had two shots on goal, one of which went in. There was a great atmosphere during the match. There are times when a team will suffer and has to be able to deal with that, which is what we did today. We got back into the game after they scored and created more chances. We weren’t as clinical as we should be though.

Darren Bazeley, New Zealand coach
It’s disappointing for us. We fought really hard and had good possession at times. It was a good match. We went 1-0 down but the boys kept themselves in the game and in the second half we came out, scored our goal and had a period of ten or 15 minutes where we played with a lot of energy and the fans really got behind us. I thought we would make it to extra time and attack them there, but they scored a good goal at the end.
