WHO WANTS TO BE A VOLUNTEER?

If you would like to be a volunteer for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Chile 2008, you can register right now on the official FIFA website, FIFA.com. The volunteers programme is run by the LOC, through FIFA.com, the official website of the tournament. On the website you will find instructions on how to register, plus news, frequently asked questions and how to contact us.

You will also find all there is to know about being a sports volunteer, the event itself, the countries which are taking part and the workshops where you can develop your personal and professional abilities. If you are interested in becoming a part of our team, all you have to do is write to voluntariochile2008@gmail.com or call us directly on 56+2+8101822 or on the mobile number 7-8779161.

To become a volunteer you must:

  • Have a keen interest in taking part in Chile 2008.
  • Be over 18
  • Be in good health
  • Abide by Chile's laws and regulations
  • Be able to take part in training sessions and related activities
  • Be a good communicator, ideally in foreign languages
  • Possess the knowledge and abilities needed for the job

We want to show the world how proud Chile is to host such a prestigious competition, and you, as a volunteer, can help us achieve that goal. It is not just about supporting your team and solidarity, but also about being enthusiastic about receiving and welcoming the best of women's football to your country.

Being a volunteer means being a promoter of your country's spirit, but it requires a lot of hard work. This is the ideal opportunity for us to consolidate Chile's image as the sporting and organisational leader of South America. A successful organisation of this FIFA World Cup would provide a considerable boost to our candidature to host future competitions, such as the Copa America 2011 and the FIFA Women's World Cup 2015, and also to our aspirations for the men's South American U-17 Championship 2009, already awarded to Chile.

The greatest reward for a volunteer is to be part of a great sporting event and to feel proud that you have worked for the benefit of your country and its visitors. We invite you to join us because we firmly believe that working together will be the key to making this World Cup a success.

General aim

The main aim of our volunteers is to work as a team and give unbiased support to Chile 2008, while fostering an individual and collective commitment to helping without monetary reward.

Specific aims of volunteer programme:

  • To recruit individuals with the ability to work as part of the teams determined by the Chile 2008 LOC (Local Organising Committee).
  • To help volunteers develop a deep appreciation and respect for their cultural heritage.
  • To provide a thorough training process for our volunteers in order to help them gain the necessary knowledge to carry out their job successfully.
  • To encourage volunteers to act as the hosts of this sporting celebration.
  • To promote courtesy and hospitality amongst volunteers.
  • To motivate volunteers to act as the leaders and sponsors of this sporting event.

Volunteer rights

All volunteers will be provided with sportswear (jacket, T-shirt, trainers, leggings, shorts and baseball cap), an accreditation, a snack, medical insurance (for the day of the match) and a certificate, as well as transport expenses to get to the stadium on the day. It is very important for volunteers of Chile 2008 to show initiative. All volunteers will:

  • Become official members of Chile 2008 Volunteers.
  • Receive training and the necessary tools to carry out tasks efficiently.
  • Be provided with clothing, food and any other instrument necessary in order to perform effectively and successfully.
  • Respect and recognise the function of a volunteer.

Becoming a volunteer is, to some extent, like becoming an anonymous hero and ambassador for your country, as you help project the image of a well-developed nation which is passionate about women's football. Our volunteers are vital to the success of this World Cup. There is nothing to stop you from being part of this great team: all you need is the desire to let the world know how proud your country is to be hosting a great competition like Chile 2008.

Come and be part of Chile's sporting history. Your involvement, over and above a commitment to a particular game, team or sport, will bring you closer to the founding principles of your homeland as well as the values of solidarity, participation and culture.
