The Estadio Francisco Sanchez Rumoroso in Coquimbo was inaugurated on 1 July 1970, and the original design has since undergone several modifications.
But without a doubt the most significant renovation took place in December 2007 when the stadium closed its doors for a complete overhaul in the run-up to the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Chile 2008.
Now the stadium, home to local outfit Coquimbo Unido, will have seating for 17,750 people as well as a 'new services' building and Va IP area.
The players' and coaches' benches are incorporated into the stand and the whole ground's floodlighting has been revamped. The rebuilt stadium has taken the form of a ship in homage to Coquimbo's maritime tradition, the city being famous for its port and pirate lore.
