New Zealand book UAE berth

New Zealand have qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup UAE 2013 after comfortably winning the OFC U-17 championship in Vanuatu.

New Zealand swept to the crown on the final day of competition with a fifth consecutive victory dispensing with Papua New Guinea 4-0, to collect a maximum 15 points scoring 23 goals while conceding only 3.

The Young All Whites opened with a 9-0 win against Cook Islands before beating New Caledonia 4-0. The continental defending champions struggled to register a 2-1 win against hosts Vanuatu before beating Fiji 4-2.

New Zealand went into today's final match needing just a point to stay clear of second-placed New Caledonia, and four second-half goals against PNG sealed the result.

New Zealand will be competing in the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the sixth time in their history after taking part for the first time in 1997. This will be their fourth consecutive participation after reaching the Round of 16 at Mexico 2011.
