Asian quartet qualify for India 2017

Iran became the first team to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 after they advanced to the semi-finals of the AFC U-16 Championship following a 5-0 quarter-final victory over Vietnam on Sunday.

llahyar Sayyad opened the scoring after 29 minutes before Mohammad Ghaderi doubled their advantage early in the second half. Alireza Asadabadi then gave Vietnam a mountain to climb just after the hour mark.

A dominant Iran then put their opponents to the sword as Amir Khodamoradi and Sayyad’s second wrapped up a comfortable win.

In Sunday's other quarter-final, Japan booked their place at India 2017 after a narrow 1-0 victory over United Arab Emirates.

Defender Ayumu Seko's first-half goal was enough to see Young Samurai Blue through to the semi-finals of the AFC U-16 Championship after missing out on that stage two years ago.

On Monday, Korea DPR booked their spot after seeing off Oman 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the last eight.

An even opening 45 minutes at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium saw DPR Korea's Yun Min miss from the spot, before substitute Muadh Al Jahdhami put Oman in front on 79 minutes.

But the East Asians hit back five minutes later through Kim Pom-hyok and with no further goals the tie was decided on penalties.

Both sides netted two of their first three spot kicks but after Cha Kwang put the Koreans 3-2 to the good Al Jahdhami missed and Kim Pom-hyok kept his composure to secure a 4-2 shoot-out victory.

Iraq completed the quartet following a 2-0 win over Uzbekistan with Mohammed Dawood scoring both goals in a game which saw them also hit the woodwork three times.
