Brazil coach Emerson Avila.
"I’m delighted that we have gone through. I was expecting a tough test because we faced Ecuador in the South American Championship earlier this year. I would also like to congratulate the Ecuador coach for the good football his country have been producing at continental and international level. I thought we did well in the first half and when our chance came we took it. Ecuador were the better side in the second half, when they controlled the match but couldn’t score. They put us under pressure and we couldn’t get a hold of the ball, but in the end we got the second goal off a set-piece."

Ecuador coach Javier Rodriguez
"That was our strategy. We wanted to steal possession in the first half and hit them on the counter but we weren’t able to do it. We got into the game in the second half. Our forwards pushed up and we worked the flanks, and even though we couldn’t get the goal, I thought our attitude was great. Brazil are going to do Latin American football proud here, and as for us, I think we’ve improved and I hope we can continue to do so in the future."
