Mexico coach Raul Gutierrez
“Scoring a goal in the second minute was a big boost for us. Panama played a tough game. We know them very well and how strong they are and how good they are on the counter-attack. We suffered in the first half and we made the game harder than it needed to be. We were better in the second half and we got the insurance goal we needed. It was hard to play on such a wet pitch, and it made us change our style a little bit. Hopefully we can get back to our passing and possession game in the future. Our next game against France will be a difficult one, as they are a great team. We beat the Netherlands who were the champions of Europe, so I think we can beat France.”

Panama coach Jorge Dely Valdes
“Suffering a goal so early changes everything in a game like this. We had a plan before the opening whistle, but after something like that happens your system has to change. I am still very proud of my team. They gave everything they had. We need to work on set pieces, obviously, as we’ve been hurt by them several times at these finals. We are all upset about losing, but we have a lot of things to be proud of here at this World Cup. We never feared Mexico; this was not the problem today. We showed that we can play with them and that we are getting better.”
