Germany coach Steffen Freund
"I’m very pleased to have won and very proud of my players, but I must also congratulate an English side which never gave in, which barely gave us any respite and which really put us under the cosh at the end. I’d also like to say how much I respect my players for the great performance they put on, while our captain Emre Can was excellent. The only thing I didn’t like was the way we gave the ball away prior to England’s second goal. I don’t think we’re the best team here, we won’t know who that is until after the final. Now’s not the time to talk about our semi-final opponents, because we simply don’t know who they are yet."
England coach John Peacock
"Before we start, I’d like to give my congratulations to Germany. I think that we’ve witnessed a fantastic game and though I’m disappointed, I’m proud too. We started well but at this level you can’t afford to give any team a three-goal head start, let alone Germany. They defend really well and it’s tough to get at them. The key moment was when the German keeper pulled off an incredible save to deny [Nathaniel] Chalobah, only for them to score their third goal in their very next attack. I’d also like to thank the fans in Morelia for their support and the ovation they gave us at the end."
