Ogun State is in south-west Nigeria and borders Lagos state to the south, Oyo and Osun state to the north, Ondo state to the east and the republic of Benin to the west. Abeokuta is the capital and largest city in the state. The people speak mostly Yoruba and various dialects such as Ijebu,Yewa, Egba and Remo. Ogun has a population of 4,054,272.

Major cities and towns in Ogun state include Abeokuta, the state capital Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu,  Ijebu Igbo, Ilaro Ayetoro and Ota, which is its most populous and industrial.

Ogun state has the highest number of registered universities in Nigeria, with nine in all. Five of these are private.
