It is Nigeria's richest state in solid mineral deposits, such as gypsium, kaolin, mica, clay, tantalite, copper, iron ore, gemstones, granite, columbite, zinc, lead, quartz and feldspar. Agricultural produce in the state includes poultry, fish, sorghum, gum arabic, timber, livestock, shea nut, wheat and citrus. The state also has an upper hand in Nigeria in the areas of sports promotion and development in the 20 local government areas.
