Lagos is located in the south-western part of the country. Until December, 12, 1991, it was Nigeria's capital, and although this title has now passed to Abuja, Lagos still maintains its status as the country's commercial hub, bringing together a variety of businesses.
Though is the smallest state in Nigeria in terms of size at 3,475.1 km2, it is its second most populous. With a population of 9,013,534 people, Ikeja serves as its capital. Lagos has 20 local government council areas, with five administrative divisions.
Lagos State is predominantly Yoruba but other tribes can be found in large numbers. The Aworis are found in the Ikeja area, while the Oguns are in Badagry, which was famous for its slave trade.
Ikorodu and Epe areas are mostly inhabited by the Ijebus, with pockets of Eko-Aworis along the coast line.
