Janae Gonzalez’s dipping long-range strike for Mexico against Colombia has been voted by FIFA.com’s users as the Goal of the Tournament at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2014.
Gonzalez’s wonder strike, which put her side 3-0 up in their Group D match against Las Cafeteras, polled more than 9,300 votes. Picking up the ball outside the Colombian, box, the diminutive Gonzalez took a couple of steps forward and let fly with a stunning right-footed shot that dipped over the Colombia keeper and into the right-hand corner of the net.
Taking second place behind the Mexican was Venezuela’s Deyna Castellanos and her match-winning effort against Italy in the final round of games in Group A. The Vinotinto striker outpaced the Italian defence to coolly lob a pinpoint through-ball first time over the head of the advancing keeper.
And completing the top three was another Venezuela goal scored against Italy, this time by Tahicelis Marcano, whose 30-metre piledriver gave the Azzurrine custodian no chance in the match for third place.
