Christopher Cuellar, Mexico coach
The opening match is often difficult. We overcame our nerves, and the players proved that they were perfectly capable of executing our gameplan. This is an important win – it’s going to really motivate us for the next two matches. We’re going to work as hard as we can and try not to rest on our laurels after today’s result. The players worked well as a unit, and this solid result is a great reward for the work that they have put in.

Gareth Turnbull, New Zealand coach
Despite the scoreline, the feeling I have is one of pride. I'm proud that this group were brave enough to play the way we have asked them to, which reflects the style of football New Zealand Football are attempting to develop through the age groups to senior level. Our naievety will of course at times fail us, but that is normal for players at this age level. The players will have learned a massive amount about themselves, the level of international football and will be far richer for the experience. We are excited to have another chance to improve when we play Spain in our next match.
