Joachim Low, Germany coach
It was an unbelievably hard-fought game. A number of our tactics didn’t really come off, but at the end of the day, we’re through to the next stage. Manuel Neuer made two or three outstanding saves in a terrific display. We’re looking forward to the Round of 16 tie, it’ll be a cracking match. You could see our young team struggling to cope with the pressure, but these are the games you have to win. We’ve done it, and I’m delighted. We could have made more of the chances we created. We just lacked conviction in our attacking play. We made mistakes too, but no criticism towards my young players. There are a few areas where we have to improve. It's a mark of Mesut Ozil’s class that he brilliantly took his second chance of the game.

Milovan Rajevac, Ghana coach
Germany are an excellent team, but at the end of the day, we deserve to be in the next round. We were tactically very disciplined, but we can’t be conceding a goal like that. They’re a good team, and they took advantage of the situation, but at the end of the day, it’s worked out well for us. I hope we’ll have the support of most of the South African people now. I hope we’ll benefit from the tremendous support here in South Africa. We created some great chances and were a shade unlucky with our finishing – perhaps we lacked focus. I hope we start scoring goals. I’m not thinking about the USA yet, we want to celebrate today’s achievement first.

Philipp Lahm, Germany defender
We rode our luck at times. The pressure was on, but we coped. It was a big game for us, because we were utterly determined to make the last sixteen, and we’re there. Any meeting with England is huge, and we’re really looking forward to it. We’re looking ahead with confidence, although we know there are things we have to do better.

Andre Ayew, Ghana midfielder
It was a very difficult game for us, but we’ve battled away to the end. It wasn’t quite enough for a draw, but it was good enough to make the next round. We failed to take our chances today, and there were plenty of chances we could have taken. The vital thing was to qualify.

Mesut Ozil, Germany midfielder
We knew it would be hard work against Ghana. We fought to the end and we’ve deserved to win. I missed a huge chance to put us a goal ahead. That one has to go in, missing it was a choker for me, so I’m thrilled I’ve gone on and scored. Obviously, I was down after missing that clear-cut chance, but the team gave me magnificent support, and I was confident I’d score today. There was no-one in front of me, I just let fly. I was obviously overjoyed when it went in. We’re not bothered about who we face next. We’re not afraid of anyone, because we know what we’re capable of. We knew the knockout stages began for us today. We have to win every game from now on, and I’m convinced we can.
