Honduras won't rush injured pair

Honduras insist they will not take any chances in trying to rush the recoveries of star midfielder Wilson Palacios and striker David Suazo ahead of Wednesday's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ opener against Chile.

Los Catrachos' medical team are doing their utmost to ensure Tottenham Hotspur man Palacios, who has a muscle injury, and Suazo, who has a thigh problem, are fit for the game in Nelspruit.

We are in the elite of world football and we cannot make any mistakes, there can be no negligence.

However, the team's trainer wants every player who lines up to be at full fitness. "The players have put in their best effort but the science doesn't lie - we have to wait to see how things evolve and take a reasonable time," said Carlos Velasco. "From now until matchday we will make a more accurate assessment and then make a final decision.

"We are in the elite of world football and we cannot make any mistakes, there can be no negligence. What concerns us is to have the player at 100%, even at 1000%, to use a phrase from our coach, that can meet the requirements of playing at the World Cup."

Honduras coach Reinaldo Rueda is expected to make a decision on Suazo's fitness the day before the match.
