Vicente del Bosque, Spain coach
We didn’t play well and we never looked comfortable, but that was partly down to Paraguay. Even so, I think we deserved to go through and the best thing about the game was the result. We are delighted to be in the last four and these are happy times for Spanish football. We are not scared of Germany but I think they are playing better than anyone right now. We are strong, though, and we can take on anyone, including the Germans.
Gerardo Martino, Paraguay coach
I thought we gave everything we had to give. We had our chances but unfortunately Spain went through and not Paraguay. That's football. Chances were created and one side took one of the few that came along. I’d like to thank the players for their commitment. They gave their all.
Iker Casillas, Spain goalkeeper and captain
We knew it wasn’t going to be easy because it was a World Cup quarter-final. It wasn’t exactly our greatest game ever, and they ran hard. You have to congratulate Paraguay for what they’ve done. We can go far with the players we have and now that we’ve got over the hurdle of the quarter-finals we can make it all the way. Germany are a great side so we’ll need to work hard and go for it.
Roque Santa Cruz, Paraguay forward
I think we needed a little more luck and we showed that we could have won. We’ve got the team to keep on progressing but we have to accept our fate. Spain weren’t better than us, anything but, and we had our chances during the course of the game.
Andres Iniesta, Spain midfielder and Budweiser Man of the Match
It was a match that had a little bit of everything. We knew it was going to be really tough because Paraguay have made life hard for all their opponents here. We should be proud and happy and lots of other things too. We’ll turn our thoughts to Germany now. They are having a fantastic World Cup and it’s going to be a very exciting game. We are feeling very motivated, things are going our way and we really are determined to go through. The strength of this team is that we all pull together and that’s what’s going to take us all the way.
