A FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 Organising Committee (OC) delegation began a tour of inspection of all eleven candidate host cities with a visit to the stadium construction site in Sinsheim on Monday. The OC team also outlined the selection procedure up until the venues are announced in Berlin on 30 September, and restated the fundamental success criteria. The OC delegation, headed by General Coordinator Ulrich Wolter, also includes Head of Stadiums Winfried Nass, Marketing Director Doris Fitschen, and OC Media Director Jens Grittner.
"The tour of inspection basically marks the start of the last lap in terms of choosing the World Cup host cities. The Sinsheim project is well on time, and the region’s fans can look forward to a fantastic stadium. The next critical step is on 12 September, the deadline for the candidates to supply us with all relevant signed contracts. Overall, and just as in the run-up to the 2006 World Cup, FIFA and the OC are spoilt for choice in choosing our venues," commented Wolter.
The inspection tour now moves on to Augsburg on 5 August and Dresden on 6 August. Magdeburg and Wolfsburg are on the schedule for 13 August, followed by Bielefeld and Bochum on 14 August. The delegation will visit Monchengladbach and Leverkusen on 15 August. The tour concludes in Berlin and Frankfurt in the second half of the month.
