OC tours the eleven candidate cities and stadiums

The countdown has begun: on 30 September 2008, FIFA and the competition's Organising Committee will come to a decision on the chosen host cities for the FIFA Women's World Cup Germany 2011. To take a look at the potential host stadiums and to help them make their final decision, the OC is travelling to all eleven candidates this August.

"We are well aware of the importance of this decision," says OC President Steffi Jones. "For a lot of areas, getting the right decision from us means being put on the world footballing map. That's why we can't just look at their application and make up our minds, we have to factor in a tour of the stadium as well."

General Coordinator Ulrich Wolter is heading the four-strong team of experts that will make the inspection visits. Winfried Nass, Head of Venues and Stadiums, Doris Fitschen, Head of Marketing and Jens Grittner, Head of Media and Communications, bolster a team that already boasts a wealth of experience after preparing for and implementing the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™. The cities themselves will be represented by their respective dignitaries and spokespeople, as well as the owners or companies responsible for running the stadiums.

The tour of the stadiums will begin with an introductory presentation by the OC, outlining the time frame, future requirements and the criteria for the final decision. This will be followed by a tour of the stadium itself or of the building project, looking as closely as possible at the area- and floor-space management. The team will focus particularly on the areas designated for a FIFA Women's World Cup press centre, as well as the broadcasting technology area, the accreditation centre and the facilities for food provision, security, traffic and ticketing.

The individual inspection tour dates are as follows:

August 4: Sinsheim stadium
August 5: Augsburg stadium
August 6: Dresden stadium
August 13: Magdeburg and Wolfsburg stadiums
August 14: Bielefeld and Bochum stadiums
August 15: Monchengladbach and Leverkusen stadiums

The inspections of the stadiums in Frankfurt and Berlin will take place in the second half of August. The exact dates will be provided in due course.

Note to editors:
