Three years in advance of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011
in Germany, well-known personalities Sandra Minnert, Renate Lingor
and Britta Carlson have been appointed official ambassadors for the
tournament, supporting Organising Committee (OC) President Steffi
Jones in promoting the first FIFA Women's World Cup on German
soil.
The ambassadorial trio will be officially unveiled to the
public by OC President Jones and German FA (DFB) President Dr. Theo
Zwanziger on 29 May 2008 ahead of Germany's Women's
European championship qualifier against Wales at the Auestadion in
Kassel.
Steffi Jones, Sandra Minnert, Renate Lingor and Britta
Carlson boast 430 international appearances between them in careers
which helped shape the history of German and global women's
football. Their names are closely associated with German triumphs
at the 2003 and 2007 FIFA Women's World Cups and the 2005
European championship.
"I'm really looking forward to the support offered
by three outstanding representatives of the German game as we
prepare for the Women's World Cup in 2011. Our three
ambassadors will make an immense contribution to stoking the fires
of anticipation up and down the country," commented Jones.
Home and overseas representation, and close involvement in
schools' and clubs' campaigns will be part of the remit
undertaken by the three renowned ambassadors.
