The ninth stop of the official FIFA Women's World Cup 2011™ Welcome Tour brought a special honour for OC President Steffi Jones, who was greeted by Mexico's First Lady Margarita Zavala in Mexico City on Tuesday.

It soon became clear during the one-and-a-half hour reception at the Los Pinos presidential palace that Zavala was a huge fan of women's football and a keen admirer of the Mexican women's national team as role models in the country.

The highlight of the trip was a meeting with President Felipe Calderon, who took the opportunity to personally wish the OC President well in her preparations for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 in Germany."It was a great honour to be invited to the presidential palace and to meet President Calderon and his wife. The presidential couple are both huge football fans and keen proponents of girls' and women's football in Mexico. This meeting underlines the great international importance of the 2011 Women's World Cup," said Jones.

The OC President presented Zavala with a Germany national team shirt bearing her name and the number 2011. Germany's ambassador to Mexico Dr. Edmund Duckwitz was also present.

Steffi Jones will officially welcome the Mexican football family, including Association President Justino Compean, to the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 at the OC's Welcome Event at the Banqueros club on Wednesday.
