
Germany continued their impressive winning form at home in recording a 2-1 win against Asian champions Australia in an international in Wolfsburg on Thursday.
The hosts of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup™ needed a winner 19 minutes from full time via the boot of Martina Mueller to see off the Matildas, who last weekend finished runners-up in the Peace Queen Cup held in Korea Republic.
Australia teenager Sam Kerr opened the scoring on 28 minutes with a clipped finish over goalkeeper Ursula Holl. The Germans however responded almost immediately with the prolific Inka Grings, who had earlier struck the crossbar with a header, finishing smartly after fine lead-up work on the flank from Fatmire Bajramaj.
The 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup which will run from 26 June until 17 July.
