The team of ambassadors for the FIFA Women's World Cup Germany 2011™ has been strengthened by the addition of a FIFA World Cup™ winner. Rainer Bonhof has agreed to promote the Borussia-Park in Monchengladbach as one of the venues for the finals in Germany.
The 1974 FIFA World Cup winner and vice-president of Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach will be joined by Dunja Hayali, the German newsreader who has been part of the 'magnificent eleven for 2011', a team of 11 prominent women brought together to support preparations for the FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany.
The pair received their inductions on Sunday in Monchengladbach in the presence of DFB President Theo Zwanziger. Meanwhile, Gladbach President Ralf Konigs is clearly looking forward to his club playing a full part in the showpiece tournament in two years' time.
"30 per cent of all Borussia members are women and I think we'll be great hosts," said Konigs, while mayor of the city Norbert Bude added that "the preparations are going well and there has been a lot of cooperation all round. Still, we're going to be very busy."
Three FIFA Women's World Cup games will be played at the Borussia-Park in 2011: two group matches and one semi-final.
