Equatorial Guinea-Brazil: Quotes

Equatorial Guinea coach Marcello Frigerio
We've played in a top quality tournament and we've learned a lot. The World Cup finals will have been extremely valuable for my players. When you're up against the likes of Marta, Formiga, Rosana and Cristiane, you only need one mistake to concede a goal, and we've made three mistakes today. But I think that if Equatorial Guinea learns its lessons and continues to prepare well for the tasks ahead, there's definitely a chance we could be meeting up again at the next World Cup in four years. We wanted to be worthy representatives of our country, and I think the folk at home will be satisfied.

Brazil coach Kleiton Lima
We were very poor in the first half today, basically even worse than in the opening match. Countless passes went astray, but I said to my players at half-time they should mix things up a bit and create space by using the flanks. Erika scored a wonderful goal today and set us on our way. Overall, I don't think we're making the most of our technical ability yet, but our defence is 100 per cent solid. Some people are saying the way we defend is out of date, but we're solid, we keep it tight, and we have players and strikers who are fantastic on the break. Marta is so obviously focused on Brazil winning this World Cup!

This defensive line has been together for a very long time. It's very important to us, because we can't be making changes all the time. Our 3–5–2 formation means we have lots of options. But you can't expect us to put on a show every time. That's the way Brazil have played in the past, but we've lost when it mattered. We're being criticised right now for not always winning 5–0 or something like that, but were composed and we're successful.
