Two second-half free-kicks in quick succession proved to be New
Zealand's undoing in Wuhan, as Denmark ran out 2-0 winners to
boost their chances of progression from a competitive Group D.
Katrine Pedersen curled home a sublime opener on 61 minutes,
and from her inswinging cross five minutes later, Cathrine Paaske
Sorensen headed home a second.
The result moved Denmark level on three points with China PR, who went down 4-0 to Brazil. Following a 3-2 loss to the tournament hosts first time out, Denmark will now prepare to face the Brazilians - who top the pool on six points - in their final group game in Hangzhou on Wednesday.
For their part, the Kiwis, pointless from two games and with a
minus-seven goal difference, are all but eliminated ahead of their
last group fixture against China.
