Hosts China secured a hard-earned 3-2 victory over Denmark in their opening Group D game thanks to a wonderful late winner from Xiaoli Song.
China looked to have surrendered two points in Wuhan after Denmark fought back from two goals down to equalise through Catherine Paaske Sorensen on 87 minutes but midfielder Song struck back just a minute later, chesting the ball down on the edge of the D before unleashing a superb half-volley in via the underside of the crossbar.
Marika Domanski-Lyfors' team went ahead on 31 minutes with a Li Jie free-kick directed into the top left-hand corner. Shortly after the break it was 2-0 when Bi Yan struck with a deflected shot from outside the box but Denmark gained a lifeline 60 seconds later through Anne Dot Eggers Nielsen's header from a corner. When Paaske Sorensen then headed home in the closing minutes it seemed Denmark had grabbed a point but Song ensured the hosts had the last laugh.
