Ntiero Effiom, Nigeria coach
I want to say that the players played well. They gave it all
their best. We created some good chances and it could have been
different. It was always going to be difficult in such a strong
group, with USA, Sweden and Korea DPR. We wanted to show that
Nigeria's women's team could compete and I think we've
done that. In terms of hospitality, the Chinese have been very
good, very friendly, and I'll remember it well when I get back
to Nigeria.
Greg Ryan, USA coach
First I'd like to say congratulations to
Nigeria on a great tournament - they gave three great performances.
The way they play attacking soccer is very impressive. I'm also
very proud of my players because it was a very tough group and
tonight's results allowed us to go through as winners, which
was a goal of ours. A lot of our players are playing in their first
World Cup and I thought they were all great tonight. Lori Chalupny
had a fantastic game. We know England are a very good team. Their
performance against Germany showed how strong they are. Our goal
wasn't to avoid Germany it was just to play well and win our
group.
Perpetua Nkwocha, Nigeria forward
I have to say that I feel good to have won the
Player of the Match. I must say thanks to my team-mates who played
very well. I think we showed that we are a are a good team. The US
felt that they were going to beat us by maybe 5-0, but they were
surprised by the quality of the Nigerian team.
Kristine Lilly, USA midfielder
We're happy with the result but we could have played much
better. We will expect a very good game against England. We've
made it to the quarter-finals so we know it is going to be
tough.
