Silvia Neid, Germany coach
I'm very happy with my team's performance. We've
qualified for the quarter-finals, which was always our aim, and our
overall display was quite good. We were strong in defence against a
technical and very skilled opponent, and going forward we created a
lot of chances. Ever since the draw, it has been easy to foresee
that we would have a tough match in the quarter-finals and I always
expected that our opponents would be either USA or North Korea.
Hiroshi Ohashi, Japan coach
The condition of the pitch was very good, so I put
out a team to play good, skilful football and to go for three
points. I said to the players that I wanted to see total football
and although we lost, I have to say well done to them because they
played well. I also have to thank the supporters, who gave us
courage. But mainly I am sorry that we will not go on to the
quarter-finals and, as head coach, I take responsibility for that.
Kerstin Garefrekes, Germany midfielder
We have to think of this tournament from match to match but
one thing is sure and that is we will need to improve the level of
our performance in the next round.
Nadine Angerer, Germany goalkeeper
Regardless of whether we play against the US or North Korea
in the next round, it's guaranteed that I will have a lot more
to do than I did tonight.
Miho Fukumoto, Japan goalkeeper
I think today's match was our best performance
of the competition. But we couldn't always play in our usual
style and I feel very sorry that we won't be going on to the
quarter-finals.
