Hope Powell, England coach
It really is a job well done for us. I am delighted with the
result and the way we played today. I'd also like to give full
credit to Argentina, they did well tonight especially after going
down to ten. They will be back in the future. We worked very hard
to not get complacent in a game that we were expected to win. In
the end, it all worked out for us. We have worked very hard in the
last few years. If we meet the USA in the quarter-finals, we will
relish the opportunity to be the underdog. We look forward to
whomever we meet. We are creating a lot of chances and scoring
goals. The latter stages will be about being clinical with
finishing and we are trying to improve with every game.
Carlos Borrello, Argentina coach
It is obvious to me that we need to get more experience at
this level. We cannot compete with the European teams or the North
American ones, but with every game we are learning about football
at this level. We are a very young team and we still have a lot to
learn. We know we have a long way to go to reach the top level of
women's football, but we will keep on trying. We are sad about
the results here, but we will build ourselves back up and get
stronger for the future.
Kelly Smith, England midfielder
Our main goal was to reach the knockout rounds. Tomorrow
we'll find out who we meet and we are all just really happy. We
don't always get the kind of credit we deserve, but now we have
proven that we belong here by reaching the quarter-finals.
Fara Williams, England midfielder
It's a great feeling to be into the quarter-finals. This
is the goal we set out and we couldn't be happier to have
achieved it. We played well tonight, created a lot of chances and
took them. It was a good day.
Sue Smith, England forward
We played well today and we couldn't be more
pleased with the result. Our goal before arriving in China was to
get out of the group stages and we've done that. We'll just
have to wait and see who we meet in the last eight, but if it's
the USA we'll take them as they come.
Eva Gonzalez, Argentina defender
I'm pleased to have scored tonight especially because
it's the only goal we scored at this World Cup. Sure, we hoped
for more out of this tournament but we will grow with the
experience and be better for it.
