English referee Wendy Toms will miss the China-Nigeria match at Canberra's Bruce Stadium on Thursday as a result of a sprained ankle.

Wendy Toms hurt herself by slipping on the floor of her hotel bedroom and a check by FIFA doctor Bert Mandelbaum confirmed the slight injury. She is however expected to be able to referee later in the Games.

The FIFA Referees' Committee has replaced her for the China-Nigeria match by Vibeke Karlsen of Norway.

For the match between the United States and China in Melbourne on 17 September, Wendy Toms will be replaced as fourth official by Bola Elisabeth Abidoye of Nigeria.
