Nigeria beat Ghana 2-0 at the Abuja Stadium today to clinch Africa's automatic slot at the Women's Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008. The Super Falcons required victory to edge their opponents to the Olympic ticket on goal difference, and a goal in each half from Cynthia Uwak proved enough to book them their third consecutive appearance at the quadrennial games.

The 21-year-old forward put the Nigerians in front in the 38th minute from close range. Then, after the Black Queens had threatened an equaliser, Uwak rounded goalkeeper Memunaru Sulemana and slotted home her second with two minutes remaining.

Ghana, who finished level on points with Nigeria, now face a play-off with FIFA Women's World Cup China 2007 runners-up Brazil for a place at the Olympic tournament, which will begin on 6 August.
