Dudu’s double for Brazil caught the eye of FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG) on Day 9 of the FIFA World Youth Championship UAE 2003. Colombia’s golden goal winner from super sub Erwin Carrillo was another memorable moment on a thrilling night of football.
Alvin Corneal (TRI): “Matar, but Dudu too”
Alvin Corneal “There were two heroes in Sharjah tonight. Matar, of course, but also Dudu of Brazil. He had already scored the equaliser late in the match againstSlovakia. Then, at the start of extra time, the boy took up the ball, played a one-two with Kleber, took the return beautifully in his stride and as the keeper approached, he kept his cool and fired the ball into the corner of the net. Pretty good under the circumstances.”
Horst Kriete (GER): “Colombia’s winner”
"The Play of the Day in Al Ain was Colombia’s third goal in their heart stopping clash against the Irish Republic. Reinaldo Rueda’s side were coasting, two goals to the good, with Edixon Perea and Víctor Montaño back in the dugout resting for the next game. Then suddenly Ireland were back in it with two quick goals. Enter Abel Aguilar on the right for Colombia to swing over an inch perfect cross into the stride of sub Erwin Carrillo. The striker put away the opportunity with relish to seal a memorable 3-2 win for his side."
What is the TSG?:
When does a deflected shot become an own goal? At what point does a good pass become an assist? What are the objective facts that lead to the nomination of a "Man of the Match" at a FIFA World Cup™ match? Such questions are meat and drink to the TSG, or Technical Study Group, a prestigious phalanx of some of soccer's top technicians. Their mission: to dissect the most effective tactical plans and latest advances in the game in order to transmit them to the world.
