The spectacular, last-gasp free-kick scored by Australia’s Tommy Oar against Ecuador has been voted Goal of the Tournament at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Colombia 2011 by users of FIFA.com. The curling, left-foot strike, which levelled the scores in the last minute in Manizales, gave the Socceroos their only point of the campaign and a measure of consolation for their early exit.
In second place was the sumptuous effort of Colombia’s Luis Muriel against France in their Group A opener at El Campin in Bogota. Running onto an exquisite back-heel from Michael Ortega, the Cafetero No9 turned one defender before cooling finding the corner. The final place on the podium went to the goal that settled the final - the angled cross/shot that Brazil’s Oscar fired over the head of Mika to give his side a 3-2 win against Portugal and a much coveted fifth world title in the category.
FIFA.com would once more like to thank all those who took part in the vote. If your appetite for goals is still not sated, then don’t worry. Below are links to all ten of the shortlisted goals so can enjoy the best strikes of Colombia 2011 all over again.
