Zurich, 17 January 2005 - Joseph S. Blatter sent today a message of condolences to the Benin Football Association, to the African Football Confederation and to the family of the goalkeeper of Benin's youth team, Yessouffou Samiou, who died this morning in Cotonou (Benin).
In this message, the FIFA President states:
"It was with utter horror and sadness that I learned of the death of Yessouffou Samiou, better known as "Campos", the young goalkeeper from your national youth team, in circumstances which, if the latest reports are true, beggar belief.
The death of your young player is a tragedy which horrifies the entire football world. FIFA is all the more shocked by this crime as your association is organising the African Youth Championship, the qualifying tournament for the FIFA World Youth Championship Netherlands 2005 - the supreme test of quality for young footballers.
Please allow me, on behalf of the international football family, to express my heartfelt condolences to yourself, the Benin national youth team and Yessouffou's club, the Borgou Buffles.
I would be grateful if you would kindly convey my deepest sympathy and support to the family and friends of Yessouffou Samiou at this sorrowful time."
