The FIFA World Youth Championship for the Coca-Cola Cup will begin in the Shah Alam Stadium on Monday evening with a colourful Opening Ceremony.

The ceremony will feature elephants and cultural performers including the Kuda Kepang dancers, Dragon Dancers, Peacock Dancers and others in Malaysian traditional costumes. Another feature will be a giant hibiscus, the national flower of Malaysia, and a Malaysian legendary hero, Hang Tuah.

The ceremony will also incorporate the flags and costumes of all 24 competing countries.

The President of FIFA, Dr. João Havelange, will ask the Acting Prime Minister, Dato Seri Anuar Ibrahim, to declare the Championship open, which he will do by pointing a special Malaysian Keris dagger at the electronic scoreboard.

A brief laser and fireworks display will be followed by 24 autographed souvenir footballs being kicked into the crowd.

The ceremony will last about 30 minutes.
