As at each FIFA Championship, a Technical Study Group will be analysing all 52 matches of the World Youth Championship for the Coca-Cola Cup, Malaysia 1997.

The group of experts consists of five FIFA Instructors :

  • Joseph Venglos (Director of Coaching of the Slovak F.A. and former
  • Technical Director of the Football Association of Malaysia)
  • Kwok Ka-Ming (National Coach of the Hong Kong F.A.)
  • Pedro Morales (Director of Coaching of the Chilean F.A.)
  • Alvin Corneal (Trinidad and Tobago)
  • Chief Onigbinde (Nigeria)
and is coordinated by Jürg Nepfer (Head of the FIFA Technical Department).

A technical survey among the 24 teams before the tournament has analysed their preparations for the finals. During the finals, the experts will be observing the teams’ tactical approach and their training methods while in Malaysia, as well as a full statistical survey of the 24 squads.

Special attention will be paid to the effects of the increase from 16 to 24 finalists.

Interim statistics will be issued through the FIFA media service and a full technical report will be made available after the Championship.
