Uruguay meet Uzbekistan in Group D of the FIFA U-20 World Cup after both teams suffered contrasting fortunes in their last match. While La Celeste eked out a narrow win, the Asians suffered a narrow defeat to Ghana.
Prior to the tournament, Uzbekistan coach Akhmad Ubaydullaev said that his team's goal was to reach the Round of 16. If they are to achieve that aim, they will have to go out on the attack against Uruguay. In Sherzobek Karimov, they have a player who can both create and score goals, and he will be crucial in their quest. Diego Aguirre's Uruguay are in high spirits following their late win over England, but will be looking for a more convincing victory over the AFC runners-up.
12 - At the FIFA U-20 World Cup, Uruguay have played a dozen matches with opposition from AFC and CONCACAF, none of which resulted in a draw.
"Obviously we still want to qualify for the next phase and that might require a few changes for this match. The players and coaching staff will be doing our best both in the lead up to the game and during the 90 minutes itself," Akhmad Ubaydullaev, Uzbekistan coach.
"It's a game that we're looking to win. We'd rather stay in Ismailia and play a third placed team in the next stage than a second place team. Goal difference could be crucial if we draw our final game against Ghana, but we'd love to maintain a 100 per cent winning record in the group stages," Diego Aguirre, Uruguay coach.
