Brazil defeated Ecuador 1-0 in the penultimate round of the CONMEBOL qualifying tournament in Peru to secure a ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup Colombia 2011.
The lone goal for the Brazilians, who were without suspended star forward Neymar, was scored on seven minutes by Casemiro who headed home Oscar’s pinpoint cross.
Brazil, who lost the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup on penalties against Ghana, sit one point behind competition leaders Uruguay with the pair to meet in the final round on Saturday. Uruguay claimed a berth to Colombia 2011 on Monday.
Earlier in the day Uruguay defeated Argentina 1-0 with a strike from Matias Vecino midway through the second half. And, with Ecuador and Chile playing each other in the final round of matches, the worst Argentina can finish is fourth - in one of the qualifying spots.
With four teams to represent South America at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup, two teams, namely Chile and Ecuador – are in the hunt for the one remaining ticket.
