Uruguay have become the first South American team to qualify for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia with La Celeste attaining their goal with two matches to spare following a 1-0 win against Chile.
An impressive free-kick from Adrian Luna eight minutes from half-time was enough to ensure victory and left Uruguay a point clear at the top of the six-team group.
Ecuador and Brazil both spurned an opportunity to join Uruguay as one of the four qualifiers. Ecuador were held to a scoreless draw by Colombia, while Brazil fell 2-1 to Argentina.
Aside from the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup hosts who are part of the qualification tournament, three of the remaining four nations will win their way through to compete at Colombia 2011 this July. Additionally, the top two teams will qualify for the 2012 Olympic Football Tournament.
