Chile and Portugal will both be missing influential figures as they will be without their injured captains when they face each other in the Round of 16 at the Commonwealth Stadium on Thursday.

The winners will head to Montreal for the quarter-finals on 15 July, where they will take on either Zambia or Nigeria.

The players
Chile skipper Carlos Carmona tweaked his left hamstring in the 0-0 draw with Austria in Toronto and he will sit out the match against Portugal, though an ultrasound scan was encouraging and he should be fit to return if the Chileans progress. Meanwhile, Portugal captain Bruno Gama is out of the tournament after cracking a bone in his right foot in the 2-1 defeat against Gambia in Montreal. No players are suspended for the match.

The past
Chile and Portugal have not faced each other at youth level before. They have met just once in FIFA competitions, at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, where Portugal won 4-2. The men's senior sides played a friendly in 1972, which Portugal won by the same scoreline.
