Dale Mitchell, Canada coach: "It was always going to be a tall order for us, going into the game knowing we had to score three goals to go through. Perhaps if it had been a day when we just had to win the game the result may have been different but that would still have required us to put the ball in the back of the net and we had problems doing that, not only in this game but the others as well."
Eddie Hudanski, Congo coach: "There were difficult circumstances with the wet weather but scoring the first goal made everything a little bit easier for us. There was great unity among the players tonight and we had fantastic support. The fans were so loud and colourful and that gave us a lot of power."
Asmir Begovic, Canada goalkeeper: "With my red card , I just panicked when the ball came to me and it was just an instant reaction to handle it. I felt gutted when I walked off."
Will Johnson, Canada midfielder: "There are no regrets. We had a terrific crowd and it was an honour to play for Canada. We did everything we could to score but it wasn't possible. We are a fantastic group, like a family, and we can learn from the experience. It will make us stronger."
Destin Onka, Congo goalkeeper: "We entered the match confident although our backs were against the wall. We played with all our hearts and the results show our efforts."
Mimille Okiele, Congo defender: "We had to win to prove how good the African championship is. We played hard and stayed focussed throughout the game."
