Julio Dely Valdes, Panama coach:
"We're pleased because we picked up a historic point, Panama's first ever at a World Cup. That said, I think we made things far too easy for them in the first half. Fortunately we were able to get back into the game in the second half but it wasn't enough (to win the match). We were maybe a little too hurried in front of goal, and we suffered for it. Some of the players, Gabriel Torres for example, kept trying to score the goal of a lifetime, but that's to be expected. How did I rate Luis Mejia's performance? He was our best player, no doubt about it. And he deserves special praise because he's only 16. He was brilliant in the first half and, while he had less to do in the second half, he still saved us on two or three occasions. We're very happy for him."
Jo Tong Sop, Korea DPR Coach:
"This was our first ever game at this competition and yet we were able to create a few goalscoring opportunities. Unfortunately it wasn't quite enough, but we must confess to preparing a rather cautious game plan for this match, with it being our opener. I'd also like to highlight just how proud we are to be taking part in this World Cup and that we've had plenty of support from our countrymen. We're hoping to progress to the latter stages."
Luis Mejia, Panama goalkeeper:
"All this praise I've received makes me very proud, and I think that the credit for this performance should go to all the coaching staff as well as my team-mates, who gave me the confidence to feel sure of myself between the sticks. We started quite nervously, which is to be expected in the first game of a World Cup, but we grew in confidence and got back into the match. We know that we've got some tough games ahead, but we'll do everything in our power to go as far as we can in the tournament."
Celso Polo, Panama midfielder: "It was a very difficult game, and we must confess that they surprised us a bit, despite the fact that we'd analysed their strong points beforehand. We were still half-asleep in the first half, although the telling off we got during the interval certainly worked. We went on to play much better and picked up a good result."
