Poland made hard work of it but a 1-1 draw with Korea Republic and Brazil's loss against the USA proved enough to help them advance from Group D to the Round of 16 at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal on 6 July, 2007.

The Koreans dominated the early play and Tae Goon Ha had their fans screaming for joy when he steered the ball into the net but the whistle had already been blown as he had handled. Jin Hyung Song had a shot well saved by Bartosz Bialkowski, who then denied Jong Jin Park with his legs. Poland took the lead against the run of play just before the interval when Dawid Janczyk dropped a shoulder to cleverly leave two defenders stranded before slipping the ball under Jin Hyeon Kim's body as he sprinted off his line.

The Taeguk Warriors pressed hard after the break and Sang Ho Lee emphatically smashed past Bialkowski with 19 minutes to go but it was not enough to save them as Sang Ho Lee went mightily close to getting a winner in stoppage time as Bialkowski made a fantastic save. The Poles progress to the knockout stages, where they will meet Argentina in Toronto on 12 July. Korea Republic, who gave their all at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, finished bottom of Group D after three performances which deserved better.
