Jesus Ramirez, Mexico coach: "Our first objective was to win all three games and reach the next round, so we have been successful. I left out all the players who had yellow cards but I was trying to give other players the opportunity to play in a such big tournament. They were a little bit nervous at the beginning but they were much better as the game went on."
Stu Jacobs, New Zealand coach: "It was a tough game and it took us a little while to get to the pace of the way the Mexicans played. I guess they had a fair percentage of the game for the first 30 minutes but I thought the second half was a pretty fair contest. That pleases me from a team point of view and it highlights that New Zealand and Oceania football can compete at this level."
Christian Bermudez, Mexico goalscorer: "It's always a dream to score a goal in a World Cup so I'm very happy. It was good that the team could come out and play well and win."
Jack Pelter, New Zealand goalscorer: "Getting the goal was something special and especially on my first appearance. I will cherish that for the rest of my life, though of course I would rather have got a hat-trick so we could have gone on to the second round. Our second half performance was probably the best football we played out here."
